Arrow build question: 50 gr insert + 100 gr head vs 25 gr insert + 125 gr head
I’m looking for some input from guys who have tested similar setups. I currently have about a dozen Easton 5.0 300 spine arrows cut to the same length with 50 grain inserts and 100 grain heads. I’m considering keeping those as dedicated target/practice arrows. For hunting, I’m thinking about building a half dozen more with 25 grain steel inserts and 125 grain heads. On paper, both setups would have the same total point-end weight: 50 gr insert + 100 gr head = 150 gr up front 25 gr insert + 125 gr head = 150 gr up front My reason for considering the 125 gr setup is better broadhead selection, more durable/heavy-duty head options, and slightly better FOC behavior since more of the weight is farther forward. For those who have tried something like this: Would you expect these two arrows to tune and fly basically the same, or would the 125 gr head setup act noticeably different because the weight is farther forward? I’ll obviously test them at distance, but I’m curious what others have seen in real-world tuning and broadhead flight.
